i called the vet last weekend, 'cause the spot bohdan keeps licking has a small hard bump and i was concerned. he called me right back on saturday night and since i had taken measurements and what not of the location of the lump we were able to determine that it is a knot in one of the sutures.
he said this layer of sutures is designed to dissolve in 90 days. and that in the meantime i should keep bohdan from licking it to a hot spot.
i asked if the body would push the suture out through the skin and he said he didn't think so. i said good cause that really is gross. we shall see what happens, but bohdan seems to be worrying at it a lot less.
we are still doing our short walks to the end of the block and back, and if he doesn't get to go he is sure to let me know that i have forgotten his "turn" and that he wants to "go".
sooner is always better than later.
i was worried about bohdan's progress so i called hte vet yesterday. i left him a message yesterday and he got back to me today. it wasn't an emergency and he was very apologetic for taking so long to get back to me. it was no big deal to me since there was no real panic
he said that bohdan's putting 30-40% weight on his leg was good progress and he should continue to put more weight on his leg as we go. he wanted to know how things were with removing the staples, and i told him that went well. they are all out now.
with respect for the spot he is licking all the time, i am to watch that it doesn't start to weep. if it weeps then i am to get antibiotics.
let see what else. we went on two short walks today... he was really happy to get out and go go go ... the short walk wasn't enough in his mind , but now he is passed out on the living room floor snoring.
i am to check in with the vet next week.
today was a very hard day for me. i think bohdan made it through alright, but it was hard. he was doing really well, and we walked down the street 3 houses, and he really wanted to go more.
but then had even on that short of a distance he had difficulties making it back home.
then later in the day he needed to go out into the back yard. which requires going through the garage to get out. he saw something in the garage that distracted him and he went to go after it, and then changed his mind and started to slip, on the small portion of uncovered cement he is allowed to walk on.
then we got to the back door and i told him to wait, which he did, and as i reached for the knob he jumped through the doggie door. which meant the door opened into his knee and he came down a little hard on the leg.
the vet said to start short walks with bohdan on monday. 2 weeks post op. but he has become so full of energy that we decided to walk him tonight. we only went three houses down. the length of ours and 2 others.
he was so happy to be outside, he had to mark his yard in multiple places.
he was quick to turn around when i said it was time to go back. although he did stop at the driveway froze going the opposite direction we had come from, when i told him it was time to go inside.
if the kids weren't playing ball in the street and the sun setting, oh and it being very cold out, i might have sat with him in the front yard for a bit. another day.
bohdan is so happy and full of himself. he wants to play, to run, to jump on couch. it is really good seeing him feel so good after such a major surgery.
however, i don't know how i am going to keep him quiet for the next 6 weeks.
he will get short walks, but in his eyes i am sure they wont be enough.
we are one week post op and bohdan seems to happy with himself.
he dragged me all over the yard this morning in the rain. he loves going out in the rain.
then we came into the house had our good dog cookie and settled in the living room. i went to get the bones to keep the dogs busy and keep them from getting bored.
when i brought the bone in, bohdan got up and started dacing around the living room. he doesn't jump much, but he looks more like a bucking bronco prancing and dancing in the living room.
he has been getting up a lot more often, and for the most part we have been keeping the e-collar off of and he is leaving the incision alone.
this time next week he will have the staples out ... YAY.
i am a little concerned, that he is not putting as much weight on the leg as he should and that his ankle is swollen. i didnt' get to see his leg at this time last time around. he was in a bandage for two weeks. well we went in and changed bandages after the first week.
so i just don't knwo what to expect.
saturday i was out all day... and left bohdan with shari. it looked like bohdan's bandage was slipping and uncomfortable. so shari removed the bandage. he had a pressure sore on his ankle and it looks like he might have had some circulation constriction.
bohdan is doing really well, he thinks he is better, he wants to be normal. but he is still on restriction. he is in the e-collar most of the time because he tends to lick his incision.
sunday he we were trying to take him out back when one of the neighbor dogs started barking. we needed to put a bag over his leg to keep the staples dry, but he charged through the doggie door but only went half way, which left us holding the leash and two options, try to open the door and get the leash and help him through, or drop the leash and let him go, which meant running across the wet yard.
i picked trying to open the door, he bumped his knee and cried and was limping a little but seems to be doing well later in the day.
all in all his progress is good and the next milestone is staple removal one week from today.
oh and we are off of the tramadol and only taking the duramaxx for inflamation and a light pain.
