grid

I lived in an apartment with karine. it was the top-right in a 4-apartment complex, in some sun-blasted locale like southern california in the summer. I didn't sleep very well. karine thought this was funny and to demonstrate she slept on the really large black leather couch.

the complex owners lived in the apartment on the top-left. this one was very very big. they weren't there much (jet setters?). they were arriving this morning. something was going on involving a kid.

they came and we talked, we were good friends. they were missing someone and were trying to find him. they were afraid he had gotten sucked up in some crime ring or something and wanted to get to him before any cops did.

I shifted in the dream and I was working with one of the cops, who was really a young james garner. but I had found the place, a medium size building nestled up against some trees, and I went inside. it was all weird and dark, with grid lines glowing like the edges of glass. it seemed to be a haven for really bright kids. there was a tall guy in a beige jacket and someone else, they were trying to chase this kid. they were walking with one hand over their eye and this did not appear significant at the time. I was unable to get to them before they left. the kid disapeared. I went back outside, where it had gotten overcast while still being bright.

the james garner guy arrived, he drove a black ford SUV. he decided he had to check out the inside of the building before goinf after the fleeing suspects. we had some discussion about it. apparently he had started an affair with the chief's wife and would really be in trouble if he didn't crack this case.

we went inside. there were the grid lines. about 5 feet in the floor dropped away, and it was like walking across the air. looking around there were no walls or ceiling either, and you couldn't tell which was was up; the entrance dissappeared. you could only keep your balance by believing in the grid holding you up. it was awful; no matter which was you looked, it was down. vertigo and spinning. the kids inside laughed at us as we got out of there before we fell.

at the doorway I turned and looked back. I appeared to be a simple wooden auditorium, and the grid lines were the result of some stereo projection. stereo... 2 eyes... I covered one eye with my hand and walked back in. it was a normal room, although curiously shadowed. we both went in and tried to get the story of what happened with those two guys from the kids.

there was a little more, like I think we left and chased the guys, but it's fuzzy.
