mahogany and blue water

so I was so tired after work I took a nap. and dreamt...

that I was staying in some nondescript hotel in east asia. all the floors and furniture and decor was in dark hardwood. I was with a group of people, maybe as many as a dozen, and we had several rooms, or possibly a suite, except this hotel wasn't composed of suites. the room I was in had a desk and a small old colour television. it was small and felt very close with the clime and the dark woods.

this group of friend had some internal tension/politics. I wasn't really on top of it but it involved Jack, his wife Shannon, possibly me (wasn't clear in the dream), Elena, and I think a couple others.

there had just been an Incident over the waters of the bay and it was all over the news. a plane got buzzed, and the air acrobatics brought one of the fighters fangerously close to a hydroplane/ferry thing with lots of commuters. one of them even skimmed the blue blue waters of the bay. everyone was trying to get to the bottom of why it had happened.

it turns out that I and my friend Elena had been involved in that. I had been flying one of the planes (prior to the dream, in its own temporal reference), but didn't really talk about that part. but the real thing going on is that some little plane from the Other Side was really close to the hydroplane, and the big plane hadn't seen it. Elena was involved trying to locate the little plane like on video tape or whatever. since I had seen it and had gone through all kinds of acrobatics to get close to it, move it away from where it could do any harm, I was helping her since I knew where the little plane had been.

we finally found some of the footage. it was a little red folkker biplane. yes. like the Red Baron except a biplane not a triplane.

in tha background to all this some of the tension came out to the open about Jack and his wife and Elena. I guess Jack was really married to Elena, but that was only a legality as there was some prohibition to their consumation (not sure if this was physical, spiritual, or psychological prohibition, but it was one of the above). he was with Shannon though, and while this was OK becuase he should have been married to her to begin with, it was not OK because she wasn't legally his wife, and there was all this tension becuase everyone involved with our little group had a slightly different take on the whole setup.

anyhow with that all cleared up we were able to start our hunt backtracking where the little hard-to-spot plane had come from and why it was causing so much trouble. I think that whole thing was why our group was in place in this city anyhow.

I woke from the dream with the most powerful images being the dark woods and the blue waters of the bay, closely followed by the pictures of planes on the crappy TV.

[my brain no doubt pulled some of this from the recent events with N. Korea and combined them with my father's stories of his service on the USS Kearsarge in the mid-60s.]
