karine and I were walking along a street in Santa Cruz. I think it might have been Soquel, near the safeway. not sure there.
as we were walking we came across this weird wild animal that looked like a kid's toy. my first thought was that it looked so weird it was aussie. the fur was tan and curly and it had a face like a wombat. it looked to be about 35 lbs. anyhow we went past it becuase karine said we shouldn't handle it even though it was cute.
a little further and we were stopped for some reason. while we were there a black bear cub came, and sat on my feet. I said o my god how cute. I picked it up and it hugged me. its claws were ow-ey. I said to karine, how can you resist this. she gave me some spiel about feral grown bears. then she grabbed the cub becuase it was irresistably cute.
we went to this park that was off the road. as we went we talked about encountering the wild animals. we decided it was becuase we were near a bus stop that went back to the SPCA and they were taking the bus.
at the entrance to the park were some stone steps, the bear cub wanted down then. people entering or leaving the park looked at us funny. the steps were the becuase they went over a slowly running creek that I guess came up from underground. karine said, oh, he has to learn how to fish. so we set him there and he leaned into the water, waiting for a fish. I was nervous about sitting here with all these people seeing us with a bear. I thought we would get in trouble. so I tried to look if the stream had another outlet.
I looked and fully underwater just inside the cave was a young female rottweiler, I'd say 8-10 months and skinny. she was holding her breath and I guess was trying to catch a fish, as if she had been loose in the park a while. I think maybe she was why the bear cub was there, not becuase he was smart enough to fish. when she saw me she turned around and sort of ran the other way. I say sort of becuase it was underwater...
I told karine what I had seen and said that meant the stream had another outlet. we gathered up the bear cub and went into the park. then I woke up.
