the go-go's

they were filming a documentary, A day in the life of the Go-go's. the manager was this really really big guy. I for some reason (I knew the manager but only superficially) was allowed to tag along. since I had class I would only be there from time to time. they were doing this in Oxnard so maybe that had something to do with it.

at one point I was meeting up with them in the evening and they asked me into the white minivan they were travelling around in. we had to scramble to find room. all the film and lighting equipment used for the documentary was getting hauled around in a large dog crate, except for the camera in use at the time. the film (video?) looked very surreal as the lights in use were in the dog crate and threw strange shadows. they had to move the dog crate out of the van so I could get in, then move the dog crate back in.

at another point we were going through photos from a photoshoot that had taken place on a football field. there were all kinds of funky angles and legs and what not. the photos were very old and I thought they were rejects for use on the cover of their album Vacation. in my dream, I could see the images superimposed on each other and flying around, sort of how someone would photoshop them into an album cover.

one day we all went shopping. there was some guy that was a hanger-on of some sort, or maybe he was dating one of them. he brought all of the Go-go's flowers though. a different kind of flower for each woman. there was some fuss becuase one of them got a bouquet of little purple flowers, but the idea was only one of each flower was allowed. however it made no sense to have only one of the little purple flowers, they were the kind you get in a bunch.

we all went in the bathroom which was this really big-deal public bathroom. there was this funky plastic(?) protector over the wall mirrors, which extended almost to the ceiling. it started from the edge of the mirror, came out abotu 3.5", and curved until it ran parallel to the mirror. it was closed in the bottom and open in the top.

the guy came in and everyone decided that the flowers should be floating. they filled the plastic thing in front of the mirrors with water and put the flowers in it. that was boring. so the guy ran more water, which caused a circulation and made a lot of petals spread out and cover the surface. that was more satisfying. then we all left. I marvelled silently at how rock stars all think the world exists to clean up after them.

the last scene I remember is leaving a dinner at a restaurant that had white tablecloths. the Go-go's had all already trooped back out to the monivan, leaving me with the big manager. I had been wondering why anyone was bothering to film a documentary about a day in the life of a rock group that was no longer together. I was also really hoping that if I was hanging out for this documentary, I could see them record in a studio. I finally said something about it, sort of a leading statement. he would have none of it. "what are you asking me?" so I finally asked him if they were actually back together and going to cut an album.

then the dog barked and I woke up before he answered me.
