openwave

I was trying to get my friend Raphael a job at this company, Openwave. to do so I had to go to their offices. when I went to their offices it was like the house belonging to the lady who babysat me as a child. the door faced west and there was a hall leading off to the right. there were hardwood floors.

I had to go prove that I was qualified for the job before they would consider anyone that I recommended for a screen. they took me into the 1st room on the right as you went down the hall. it also has a hardwood floor. the walls were grey and there were venetian blinds, closed, on the west-facing windows. the light filtered in and made everything look sort of dim and grey. the room was mostly bare, with two desks on the wall to the right of the door and on desk sort of in the middle perpendicular to the wall to the left of the door (that wall was the hall wall). there were 4 workstations set up in the room,
two on the middle desk. to sit at them you had to have your back to the door.

I sat at the workstation closest to the window. it was some graphical SYS V Unix pizzabox thing (solaris? irix? actually I bet it's whatever AIX graphic display there is. who knows). I looked and there was a browser window open to the web page with the job description. I re-read it, then based on that started to make a build for openwave. there was a dude there to answer all my questions.

I didn't really have any problems. I wondered what this proved about Raphael though.
