I had an odd dream that I don't recall very well now. but...
the background (in the past of the dream):
I and my brother and my mother and apparently some friends
(none of whom are from waking life) had somehow gained entry
into an alternate universe. we knew how to get back but stayed
cuz we liked it better. now the culture of the alternate
universe had caught up to us, and becuase my brother and a
couple other had overused their superior knowledge in some
fashion, everyone was getting captured and were going to be
burned as witches or some equivalent.
the actual action:
I was trying to avoid getting caught, gather the belongings
of my mother & brother, and trying to recall/figure out how
to get back to the Regular Universe. there was some reason
I had not yet been captured/arrested but that detail escapes
my recollection. dreams. so hard to hold on to.
the key was in either my mother or brother's belongings. I was
gathering them and carefully arranging them in some sort of
pine desk that bore a remarkable resemblance to an Ikea computer
desk.
meanwhile I would visit the other folks with me, who were all
chained naked and horizontal in this big city square.
why it was so odd:
within the dream, my brain was not really focused on the actual
activities taking the place in the dream, but rather on the
details of my surroundings, which were much more interesting.
[I mean if you re-read the above it's sort of like a cheesy sf
plot, right?]
so: it was cold. really cold, but not windy or snowy or rainy.
the skies were always grey. the architecture was all big granite
blocks and romanesque columns - big granite blocks like in the
SF Civic Centre, but no gold. all grey. no asphalt or cobblestones
either; the roads and square within the city were also all big grey
blocks.
by contrast, the fashions worn by these people were interesting and
colorful. picture yourself on a sunday morning. silk pajamas,
fluffly bathrobe and slippers: this is not far off. the base layer
worn was arabian-like silks, with fleece-lined soft boots. worn
over this was a bathrobe that made me think of those really fluffy
brightly-coloured polyester robes popular in the late 70's early 80's
among suburban housewives. same colours too. lastly, this was
accesorized by thin (2-3") fake-like boas, not feathered but made from
the same material as the robe. different colour. to clarify:
one wore multiple boas but they are all the same colour; which is different
from the robe. the more colourful, the more fashionable.
I recall, in my dream, marvelling at how effective this outfit was
in keeping me warm. in fact, the comfort of the clothing was one of
the factors that made us reluctant to return to the Regular Universe.
now I think about and analyze that, I realize it implies that the entire
climate is cold and dry, and the fleece lined boots are consistent
with cold granite ground.
I woke up before there was any resolution at all in the dream. and
despite all the detail above. most of it really has faded. I am
still reflecting on its relationship to my current life and headspace.
