World War I
photographs

Below is a table of contents to a photo album, listing page numbers and photo captions with a link to each. The page numbers link to image maps; the photo captions link directly to the JPEG. The photos are from my grandfather, Virgil Brooks, shown at left; a ship's baker 1st class on the USS Henry R. Mallory. [The silver in the photo at left prevents the detail of the stripes from scanning properly.]

After discussing the photo album with my aunt, we concluded that the album really belonged to my grandmother, Millie, who also wrote the captions. This belief is based on 3 things: 1) the captions are in her handwriting; 2) the pictures are not in any meaningful order; 3) most of the captions are in quotation marks, leading me to believe she asked Virgil and quoted his answer.

As I said, you can jump to a photo directly from this page, or navigate to an image map and browse just like a regular photo album. Have fun.

If you think these are interesting, and would like to see the higher-quality images, feel free to contact me and we can discuss my getting you a copy of the CD.
