In order to avoid copyright infringments, etc, annotations and explications are entirely left off the text; the works herein contain only Chaucer's words. If you are interested in such material, we suggest you purchase one of the many excellent texts on these works. However we have found that with few exceptions the glossary is more distracting than helpful.

This page remains black as a reminder that our right to present this content to you was threatened by the Communications Decency Amendment to the 1996 Telecommunication Act, a law passed in February 1996 by the US Congress and later struck down by the US Supreme Court. Were such censorship to occur, this part of the website would have to be disabled, as the works of Geoffrey Chaucer violate the standards set within this legislation.
